Edix_100 Why I want to become a Dominican

Life testimony of novice Edixsandro Morán

Edix_400I was born on April 19, 1984 in Maracaibo, Edo. Zulia, Venezuela.

I believe that there was a qualitative change of life in me when five years ago I began the initial formation as a member of the Order of Preachers, commonly known as the Dominicans. The initial steps in this experience of my life, however, were surrounded by numerous situations, doubts and the necessary separation from my own family where I grew up and experienced the tenderness of blood family ties. Such experience, most probably, is similar to that of many of my friends, since I have given up all sorts of doubts, fears and reservations to open myself totally to the infinite mercy of God, who, one day, I do not know why, turned his eyes toward me and called me to the extraordinary and wonderful vocation of “preaching”.

Today I have come to terms with the call and I can simply say that I have come to accept it firmly, deeply, and spiritually, moved by a great feeling of generosity. An inner voice has helped me to overcome my fears and doubts as I continue to experience His mercy and that of the brothers so that soon I hope it will become a reality on the day of my profession.

Certainly, as I continue discovering the meaning of the charism of St Dominic in the study of his life, and as I attempt to imitate him in the following of Jesus, I have experienced his protection when confronted with difficulties and doubts. Yes, there is one light, that of Jesus; there is one hope, that of the son who clings to his Father and Master; one love, that which renders me the indwelling of the Holy Trinity.

In my daily prayer I ask of Father Dominic: “please, let me learn what you experienced so that I may become a true preacher of the Word as you were.”

I know that there is a long way to go and much more to learn about St Dominic and his legacy to the Order, but I have started the way towards that goal set before me, as God and St Dominic have invited me to embrace the Dominican charism on account of the kingdom of God and the mission entrusted by Jesus to his disciples.

I know that I am called to work for God’s kingdom; that he is the only one who has the power to bear fruit. However, I wish I could tell him in freedom and generosity: “I want only what you have decided for me, help me to say, ‘Here I am Lord!’”
