Celebrating the Myanmar New Year at St. Albert Priory
On April 13, 2025, the Dominican friars at St. Albert Priory in Hong Kong came together to celebrate the vibrant and joyous Myanmar New Year, also known as the Water Festival. Our diverse community, with many brothers hailing from Myanmar, embraced this special occasion with enthusiasm and unity.
The Novice Brothers took the lead in organizing a series of delightful activities that brought the spirit of the festival to life. The day was filled with traditional dances and songs that resonated with the rich cultural heritage of Myanmar. In keeping with the festival's customs, there was also a joyful sprinkling of water, symbolizing purification and the welcoming of a fresh start.
This celebration was particularly meaningful as we held in our hearts the people of Myanmar, who continue to face the challenges of war and the aftermath of a recent earthquake. We offered our prayers and solidarity, hoping for peace, healing, and resilience for all those affected.
As we celebrated this beautiful tradition, we were reminded of the strength found in community and the importance of supporting one another. We extend our heartfelt wishes for a joyful Myanmar New Year, praying for peace and blessings for everyone.
