The eleventh day of the Provincial Chapter of the Dominicans of the Our Lady of the Rosary Province, held on August 28, 2025, at the Royal Monastery St. Thomas in Ávila, Spain, marked the official conclusion of the chapter. The day was dedicated to finalizing discussions, approving documents, conducting key elections, and concluding with a special Mass and a commemorative photo. August 28, 2025 (Thursday)
The day finalized the chapter’s work with assemblies, elections, and a significant liturgical celebration, coinciding with the feast day of St. Augustine.
-8:00 – Laudes (Morning Prayer): The day began with Morning Prayer, spiritually preparing the brothers for the final day.
-8:45 – Desayuno (Breakfast): A nourishing breakfast kicked off the day’s activities.
-9:30 – Trabajo de comisiones (Commission’s work): The commissions reviewed final details before the general assembly.
-10:00 – Resumption of the general assembly: The general assembly convened at 10 a.m. to continue discussing the theme “Formation and study.” The session featured lively debates and thoughtful discussions, reflecting the active engagement of all the brothers in attendance. These debates, though intense, were aimed at reaching agreements for the common good of the community and the Province. During recreation time, one brother shared a story: “St. Dominic once encountered the devil at the entrance of the chapter room, hesitant to enter because the brothers were fiercely debating. St. Dominic reassured the devil, saying that while the brothers may argue passionately in discussion, they remain united as brothers in love afterward.” This illustrates our commitment to open debate in public to avoid private murmuring.
-13:00 – Conclusion of the general assembly: Before lunch, the general assembly finalized the discussions and approved all documents prepared by the commissions.
-13:30 – Comida (Lunch): The midday meal offered a moment of celebration and reflection following the approval of the documents.
-14:30 – Recreación (Recreation): During recreation time, the brothers continued to strengthen their camaraderie.
-16:00 – Assembly for elections: From 4 to 7 p.m., the assembly reconvened to elect the definidores and provincial councilors. After more than three hours of deliberation, eight definidores and four provincial councilors were elected. The remaining tasks of the chapter will be handled by the definidores in collaboration with the Prior Provincial.
-19:30 – Vísperas y Misa (Evening Prayer and Mass): The evening Mass, coinciding with the feast day of St. Augustine, was presided over by Fr. Felipe Trigueros, with the brothers from Myanmar leading the singing in Burmese. Fr. Matthias from Myanmar delivered the first part of the homily in English, emphasizing the importance of faithfully caring for God’s household as His servants. Fr. Felipe delivered the second part, urging us to bring hope and peace to those facing challenges such as war and suffering.
-20:30 – Commemorative photo: Following the Mass, a group photo was taken to commemorate the conclusion of the Provincial Chapter.
-21:00 – Cena (Dinner): Dinner closed the day, marking the official end of the chapter with a spirit of unity and gratitude.
The conclusion of the chapter, with the approval of documents, the election of leaders, and the inspiring Mass, left a legacy of collaboration and commitment to the Dominican mission, strengthening the Province for the future.
