CATHERINE OF SIENA: EARS AND TONGUE

CATHERINE OF SIENA: EARS AND TONGUE

Jesus says: “Whoever has ears ought to hear” (Mt 11:15). To hear to whom and what? To hear the Word, Jesus, and his teachings: “He who listens to these words of mine…”

Interesting what I read a few days ago from our dear sister, St. Catherine. God the Father told her: “I, God the Father, gave you ears to attend to my words and to the needs of the neighbor”. (Ergo, prayer and compassion). The preacher, moreover, has to hear the word and then speak of what he or she has heard. St. Catherine on the purpose of our tongue: “God has given us the tongue to proclaim his teachings and to confess our sins and to work for the salvation of the souls” (The Dialogue, Ch. 144).

Our dear Father Dominic spent the day with the neighbor and the night with God, because the Lord made the night for prayer and the day for mercy (Like Jesus: prayer and compassion). Our Father, as the song says, “never asking for reward, he just talks about the Lord.”

Let us remember: THE EARS? The ears to attend to God’s words and to the needs of the neighbor. AND THE TONGUE?   The tongue to proclaim his teachings and to confess our sins and to work for the salvation of the souls” Wonderful meditation points for our journey of Easter. (FGB)
